Short answer: At The Pizza Bakery, the 20-inch extra large is the best value: about 8 cents per square inch for cheese, versus 15 cents for a 12-inch.
Pizza is round, and area grows with the square of the size, so a little more diameter gets you a lot more pizza. Here’s the real math on our cheese pizzas.
Price per square inch
| Size | Area | Cheese price | Cents per sq in |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12” medium | 113 sq in | $16.95 | 15.0¢ |
| 14” gluten-free | 154 sq in | $17.95 | 11.7¢ |
| 16” large | 201 sq in | $21.95 | 10.9¢ |
| 20” X-large | 314 sq in | $25.00 | 8.0¢ |
The 20-inch has almost three times the pizza of a 12-inch for less than $9 more.
So when should you order smaller?
- Variety. Two 16-inch pies with different toppings beat one 20-inch for a mixed group.
- One or two people. A 12-inch medium is plenty, and leftovers aren’t always a win.
- Gluten-free. Our gluten-free crust comes in 14-inch only. See our gluten-free guide.
Toppings change the math a little
Toppings cost more on bigger pies ($1.75 on a 12”, $2.25 on a 16”, $3.25 on a 20”), but per square inch the 20-inch still wins.
Our advice for groups
For parties, mix 16-inch pies for variety with a 20-inch cheese for value. Not sure how many? The pizza party calculator shows every size side by side.
